Chimayo St. Francis
Statues of saints are very common in the Southwest. This statue of St. Francis is located in the historic village of Chimayo, located about 30 minutes north of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Many of the stories of St. Francis illustrate his love of animals. He had a special love for birds, and is even said to refer to them as his sisters.
This momma cow and her calf were very put out with me… as if they had been waiting all morning for me to show up for their photo shoot. It seemed I could not change their mood, no matter how I tried. I have always been drawn to the “cuteness” of cows. At some point, these two decided the shoot was officially over, and went on with their day as if to let me know that they had better things to do than to be bothered with trying to impress me.
In the summer of 2011, I drank in the gorgeous scenery of Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado, where I could not shoot enough pictures! We saw countless elk! This guy certainly didn’t seem to be bothered by us as he grazed along a slope of wildflowers.
