I Miss Maui

I Miss Maui

I recently had lunch with a friend who had just returned from Maui.  As she talked about her trip, I couldn’t help but reflect back to the heavenly days we spent in Maui in December of 2005.  While looking back through my shots, I came across this image.  It has got to be one of my favorites from that trip.  I love the way the clouds are caught by the mountaintop, and the beauty of the sun reflecting off the blue water.  I like the “noise” of the children playing in the surf and the quiet serenity of the sailboat on the horizon.  Ah, Hawaii….

Surf’s Up

Hawaii has no shortage of beaches.  There are beaches for every activity imaginable… beaches for swimming, beaches for snorkeling, beaches for sunning, beaches for picnicking, beaches for turtle watching, and beaches for surfing and windsurfing.  Ho’okipa Beach, in Maui, Hawaii, is the place to go to watch surfers and windsurfers brave the waves.  It is known as “the windsurfing capital of the world.”  Spending some time here watching the adventurous surfers catch the waves is quite entertaining, and simply, quintessentially, Hawaii!

The Dunes

The Dunes

In celebration of Spring Break that so many are enjoying right now, I thought I’d share an image of the beautiful Outer Banks of North Carolina.  This shot was taken in the quiet early morning – before the onslaught of the heat of the day and the business of the gear toting beachgoers trekking over the dunes to settle for a day of fun in the sun.  Time on the beach, while a very bad thing for the hair, is a very good thing for the soul.
