If you have been on a cruise that visited the gorgeous Caribbean island of Cozumel, Mexico, you likely have a shot very similar to this one. It’s hard to describe the vivid turquoise of the beautiful water surrounding this tropical oasis. That striking color seems to intensify all other colors, making Cozumel one of the most colorful places to visit… in every sense of the word. Though I tend to prefer the grandeur of mountains, the sights and sounds of beaches like the ones in Cozumel do, indeed, bring a sense of peace to my soul. They are, to me, just one more reminder of the vast and varied beauty of God’s creation. I am forever thankful for the ability and desire to explore it!
Hawaii has no shortage of beaches. There are beaches for every activity imaginable… beaches for swimming, beaches for snorkeling, beaches for sunning, beaches for picnicking, beaches for turtle watching, and beaches for surfing and windsurfing. Ho’okipa Beach, in Maui, Hawaii, is the place to go to watch surfers and windsurfers brave the waves. It is known as “the windsurfing capital of the world.” Spending some time here watching the adventurous surfers catch the waves is quite entertaining, and simply, quintessentially, Hawaii!
If you haven’t made the time to get yourself to Hawaii, you really should! Time spent there is restful for the soul and renewing to the spirit. Hawaii operates at a completely different pace and attitude than the rest of the country. This shot was made on a December evening following a tough day of whale watching, snorkeling with turtles, beach lounging, volcano exploring, and mahi mahi eating while listening to island music. I know every state boasts of its uniqueness, but Hawaii really is an exceptional place.
In celebration of Spring Break that so many are enjoying right now, I thought I’d share an image of the beautiful Outer Banks of North Carolina. This shot was taken in the quiet early morning – before the onslaught of the heat of the day and the business of the gear toting beachgoers trekking over the dunes to settle for a day of fun in the sun. Time on the beach, while a very bad thing for the hair, is a very good thing for the soul.
