I woke up early this morning and couldn’t go back to sleep! This is something that only seems to happen to me in the summer… when I have the luxury of sleeping late. In the winter, when it is cold and grey and dark outside, the alarm rudely jolts me awake every morning. Anyway, the house was quiet, so I decided to take a little drive and do a little shooting in the morning light. Thanks to inspiration from a great photography book I am currently enjoying, I shot this purple flower not only from the front, but also from underneath, with the sun behind it. I love the result! Can’t wait to try this technique with my new lens – coming on the big brown truck today!!!
Key Largo Sunrise
For those of you just coming out of a long, cold, grey several months, this is what February looks like in Key Largo, Florida. Just over a year ago, in February 2011, I spent several winter days strolling around in shorts and flip flops with a margarita in my hand. It was beyond heavenly, and did wonders to remind me of the different mindset and attitude that each and every season evokes. This canal began each day with a quiet calm as the sun spilled over the hotel, followed by the hurried hustle of fishermen headed out for the day with eager anticipation. By mid day, it was busy with music filled vessels of all shapes and sizes, dotted with sun bathers, snorkelers and sightseers looking for adventure. Evening brought everyone home, sun soaked and sea weary, yet somehow reinvigorated by their time on the water. I hope this will not be the last time I spend a few “winter” days in the Florida Keys.
